Metal
Beginning with language, the work examines a polysemous term through two of its meanings, metal as a utilitarian material and metal as a musical genre, bringing them together in a physical form through an interactive installation.
The coins were weighed as metal materials on a scale by the audience. Through the installation’s program, written by Marko Mačkić, their weight was translated into the metal music genre. The heavier the metal coins were, the heavier the metal song that played immediately through the speakers.
By stripping money of its practical function and reducing it to the dimension of measurable material, the fundamental physical component of the capitalist system is pushed to the point of absurdity.
Mapping the concepts of money-art-artist-audience-economy-real life, the artwork raises questions about their relationships, coexistence, and interdependence through play.
