Ruin Series
The subjects of the interventions are ruins created during the last war in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Two ruins in different locations were selected: one on the Eastern side of Mostar city and one on the Western side, reflecting the city’s past-war division.
The first phase of the intervention involved collecting material from the ruin in the Western part of the city, transporting it and installing it in the ruin in the Eastern part. The second phase reversed this process.
The strategy of the work reflects a feminist legacy of disobedience to the rhetoric of war and patriarchal power. It stands in opposition to nationalism and militarism while continuing to care for the spaces in which life takes place.
This work was performed through the artist’s participation in the Street Arts Festival Mostar, organized by the Rezon Association. Within this context, the work asks: What can art do in times of destruction? Can art be more functional?
